For HR & people operations teams

The payroll run shouldn't stop because one person is off

Record your HR and payroll procedures in the systems you actually use — Stepwright captures installed HRIS clients, puts your spoken policy rules into the steps, and redacts personal data before you share.

Free plan, no credit card. Works on Windows and in the browser.

The payroll run, the contract change, the leaver process — each tends to live with one person rather than in a document.

A lot of HR admin happens inside an HRIS or payroll client, where the screens often differ from the vendor's own help articles.

These processes tend to touch personal data, so documenting them properly can mean sanitising screenshots by hand — or skipping it.

If the person who runs payroll is off in the week it is due, there may be nothing written down for a colleague to pick up.

How Stepwright handles it end to end.

Stepwright documents HR and people operations processes by recording them in your real systems. As a native Windows recorder it captures installed HRIS and payroll clients as well as web tools, building a numbered guide with a screenshot and written instruction per step. Spoken narration carries policy rules into the steps, and personal data can be redacted on paid tiers before sharing.

Record the process in your own system

Run the payroll cycle, the onboarding admin, or the contract change in your real HRIS or payroll software while Stepwright records the screen and your voice. It captures installed desktop clients and remote sessions, not only browser-based tools.

Say the rules out loud

HR processes are mostly conditions — notice periods, approval thresholds, which form applies to which contract type. Speak them as you work and they become step context, so the guide carries the policy alongside the clicks.

Redact personal data before sharing

Guides are private by default. On paid tiers, redact names, salaries, addresses, and national insurance or tax numbers in the screenshots, so a process can be documented without the employee data it was performed on travelling with it.

Keep it current, and cover the absence

Record just the step that changed when a form or a policy is updated. The result is a procedure a colleague can run when the usual owner is away, and export to PDF, HTML, or Markdown if your handbook lives somewhere else.

Stepwright: keep it current, and cover the absence

What your team gets out of it.

Payroll survives an absence

A recorded, screenshotted procedure means the cycle can be run by someone else in the week it matters, instead of waiting for one person to be back.

Policy captured with the process

Spoken narration puts the rules and thresholds into the written steps, so the guide answers 'which form for this contract type' and not just 'click here'.

Personal data can be stripped

Redaction on paid tiers removes names, salaries, and identifiers from screenshots before a procedure is shared internally or filed.

Reaches HRIS and payroll desktop tools

Native Windows recording captures installed clients and remote sessions, which is where a lot of HR admin still happens.

Consistent answers to repeat questions

The processes employees ask about most can be recorded once and shared, so the same question stops consuming the same hour every month.

Wide readership without extra seats

The Teams plan starts with five editors and fifty free viewers, so guides can reach the whole company while only the HR team holds authoring seats.

Frequently asked questions.

Is this different from your onboarding use case?

Yes. The onboarding page is about getting a new hire productive in their own role. This page is about the HR team's own recurring admin — payroll runs, contract changes, leaver processes, HRIS tasks — which are performed repeatedly by a small team and are usually documented least well.

How do we document processes that involve employee personal data?

Record the process as you normally perform it, then use redaction on a paid tier to blur names, salaries, addresses, and tax or insurance identifiers in the screenshots before sharing. Guides are private by default and encrypted in transit and at rest, so nothing is visible until you decide it should be.

Can it record our HRIS if it is an installed application?

Yes. Stepwright is a native Windows desktop recorder, so installed HRIS and payroll clients and remote sessions into them are captured the same way web tools are. A browser extension is also available for teams working entirely in the browser, including on Mac.

Where is our data stored?

In Germany — Stepwright runs on AWS in the Frankfurt region. Recordings and guides are encrypted in transit and at rest, and guides are private until you choose to share them.

Stop running HR process documentation from memory

Record one process and watch it become a shareable step-by-step guide. No writing, and the free plan needs no credit card.
